Also, the audience for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures is a bit different than our other games. Sam & Max and Strong Bad are mainly played by existing gamers who are already used to buying games online. Wallace & Gromit has a much more mainstream audience that's used to seeing Wallace and Gromit in movies, and aren't necessarily gamers. For these people, we thought the purchase decision would be more straightforward if we could say "We're selling you four monthly episodes for $34.95" rather than having to explain "You can get it this way for one price, or this other way for another price, or you can buy one episode and then upgrade, or..." It's a new thing for us and we're watching to see how people respond. Keeping an eye on customer behavior and adapting based on what we've learned has been an important part of our business.
For people who do prefer to buy the episodes individually, that's how the Xbox versions will be sold.
And speaking of modeling clay: What about a game based on the Celebrity Deathmatch series? If you could do one, what kind of genre would you prefer? Or are there already plans?
PT: Umm..... no comment?
Last but not least, another off-topic question: Is the next season of Sam & Max still planned for a launch in June 2009? And what about new Bone episodes in the near future?
EM: We're not working on new Bone games at the moment. As for Sam & Max, we do have plans to do a third season. Originally we were thinking it would come out soon after Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People ended, but then the schedules were shifted around for various reasons. We're going to be announcing a new series at E3 in June and I think when the fans find out what we've been working on, they'll forgive us! |
