Cannon Fodder 3: Interview

Burut project lead Oleg Lychaniy talks about Cannon Fodder 3.

So you are planning an European release. Are you already in talk with European publishers? And (why) isn't Codemasters interested in publishing the title?

The negotiation is currently in progress.

How many people are working on the project?

50 people are directly engaged in the development process.

When did the development start?

The development started in 2009.

Are you making any changes to the core gameplay of the classics or will it be some kind of "physics-enhanced" Cannon Fodder 2 in 3D?

Generally, the core gameplay stays the same, but some modifications have been made. Destructible environment has been added to the new Cannon Fodder. New types of vehicles have appeared, like a fighting robot. Each few levels end up with a boss fight. For example, after completing several missions in USA you'll have to fight against submarines. Besides bazooka and ordinary grenades, soldiers will have many other weapon types like laser gun and blinding grenades. The game will also feature super weapons like laser orbital ray, for instance. The number of enemies has also increased, now they're gonna have various special abilities. Also, the game features an achievements system.

Can you provide us with details about the control scheme? Will we be able to move the camera position? How will the controls work for the gamepad in the Xbox 360 version?

The control scheme is going to be mostly the same as in the original Cannon Fodder. Camera is attached to the squad commander, it may be relocated for better view, but the squad and its commander will always stay on-screen. In Xbox 360 version the control scheme is adapted for gamepad usage with a special shooting and squad control system.

You've announced physical water effects and the possibility of creating tsunamis. Sounds great, but how will this work?

In several missions you're gonna have to blow up dams in order to flood and destroy the enemy base with one effort. After the dam is blown up a huge wave arises which destroys everything in its way. All water-related features should add to gameplay diversity, but they don't have any meaningful effect on gameplay.
